10-5-11  -  NLRB Notice Posting Deadline Extended

From the National Association of Wholesaler Distributors:

As you all know, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has recently issued a final rule requiring all businesses covered by the National Labor Relations Act to post a "Notice of Employee Rights under the National Labor Relations Act” in their workplace, with a posting deadline of November 14th.  At least three complaints have been filed in court challenging the rule – two in the District of Columbia and one in South Carolina.  NAW joined the complaint filed by the National Association of Manufacturers and the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace.

The organizations challenging the new rule filed motions with the court asking that the judge issue a preliminary injunction preventing the Board from implementing the posting requirement while the cases are pending.  At a conference in court on Monday of this week, the judge suggested to the Board that they extend the posting deadline so that she would not need to rule on the preliminary injunction motions, and the parties could move directly to motions for summary judgment.

8-18-11  -  Take Control of Your Transportation Costs

When looking for opportunities to save on transportation costs, many businesses forget to consider the shipments they receive from suppliers. Often vendors pass along their shipping costs to the companies they supply, shown on the bill as either a separate line item or in the total. It’s not uncommon for them to quote a gross charge amount or omit a shipper’s discount to increase their margins on purchase orders. Simply deferring to the supplier gives you less control of who handles your shipment and could end up costing more than it would using your own YRC account.

You can always request that a supplier bill you collect so that your discount applies to the shipments. Have the supplier run a quote without shipping costs and comparison shop using your available discount to see if you’ll benefit from this method.

Let YRC help you evaluate your transportation costs. Contact a dedicated YRC representative at 800.647.3061 or  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

9-30-11  -  Nucor Fastener Wins Rare ITC Victory On Imports

©2011 GlobalFastenerNews.com.  Reprinted with permission.

On September 20 the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT) remanded the negative preliminary determination of the International Trade Commission (ITC) in the antidumping investigation of standard steel fasteners from China and Taiwan.

The case stemmed from one of two 2009 petitions brought by the Fastener Division of Nucor Corp. alleging that U.S. producers face material injury from dumped imports of Chinese and Taiwanese fasteners.

The ruling comes one year after the CIT dismissed Nucor Fastener's appeal on its other petition, upholding the Department of Commerce's refusal to initiate consideration of currency undervaluation as a subsidy.

In remanding the antidumping case, the court handed domestic fastener producers an important victory in their efforts to combat dumped imports, according to Alan Price of Wiley Rein LLP in Washington,DC, counsel to domestic fastener producer Nucor Fastener.
