This contest is Rotor Clip’s contribution to the STEAM initiative that encourages students to think critically and have an engineering or design approach towards real-world problems while building on their accumulated, theoretical knowledge of mathematics and science.

Last year, Rotor Clip, in association with ATMAE-The Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering, announced an engineering contest to various colleges and universities across the U.S. The contest was for students enrolled in technology programs to demonstrate how retaining rings can be used as alternative fasteners by designing an actual device fastened entirely by retaining rings.

More coverage of last year’s contest

This year, Rotor Clip is again partnering with ATMAE for the student engineering contest with an added requirement.  Student contestants must utilize a wave spring in the device as well as the required 10 retaining rings. The device has to display motion or movement in order to be considered.

Starting in January of this year, Rotor Clip began accepting entries for the contest. The deadline to enter is April 3rd, 2017. At the conclusion of the deadline Rotor Clip engineers will begin judging the entries and contacting the finalists.

Like last year, first price students will receive a free, all inclusive, trip to Rotor Clip in Somerset, New Jersey, to tour the company and attend the Atlantic Design and Manufacturing Trade show at the Jacob Javits Center, New York City, June 13-15, 2017.

Cash prizes are also awarded to the first, second and third place individuals, teams, or clubs.

Rotor Clip applauds the efforts of the students who are participating. The ideas submitted by students demonstrate the knowledge of our rings and springs, as well as a grasp of sound engineering principles.

The Ring-A-Majig contest is Rotor Clip’s contribution to our shared goal of improving the overall competitiveness of the workforce in science and technology.

We will report back with the winning designs!
